A Predictive Validity Study of Kids MAT

이 연구는 2003년부터 만 5, 6, 7세의 아동들을 위한 음악적성검사인 Kids MAT 개발의 계속적인 연구이다. 이 연구의 목 적은 Kids MAT의 예언 타당도를 조사하는 것이었다. 이 연구는 만 6, 7세 아동(1학년, 2학년) 117명을 대상으로 이루어졌다. 2008년 학기 초 Kids MAT이 실시되었으며, 음악수업은 학교 교과과정에 의해 담임교사에 의해 이루어졌다. 1년간의 수업 후 음악성취도를 측정하였다. Kids MAT 점수와 음악성취도 검사 점수의 상관관계로 나타낸 예언타당도는 1학년이 .49, 2학년이 .36이었다. 이 두 지수는 모두 통계학적으로 .01 수준에서 유의하다는 결과를 나타내었다(p<.01). 결론적으로 Kids MAT은 만 5, 6, 7세의 아동들에게 알맞은 음악적성검사라고 할 수 있다. 아동이 음악을 배울 경우, 제한적이긴 하지만 Kids MAT은 그 아동의 음악 학습의 성패를 얼마만큼은 예측하고 있다고 볼 수 있다.

Kids MAT, which is a music aptitude test for children of age from 5 to 7, has been developed since 2003. The purpose of this research is to find the predictive validity of Kids MAT. This research was conducted with respect to 117 children with age 6 and 7 (1st and 2nd grade in school). Kids MAT was administered to them in the beginning of the first semester of 2008. Music teaching was conducted by the class teacher according to the school curriculum. Music achievement was measured after a year s teaching. The predictive validity, represented as the correlation between Kids MAT scores and the music achievement scores, is .49 for the first grade students and .36 for the second grade students These two indices are statistically significant at the level of .01 (p < .01) So Kids MAT can be said to an appropriate music aptitude test for children of age from 5 to 7. Though it should be used with care, Kids MAT can predict the success and failure of music teaching for children in a short time period.
