The history of Western music in Busan started in 1892 and has been over 110 years today. Studies on the history claims their significance as they try to develop insights into the musical situations of Busan today and promote its music culture. This study set out to focus on the piano in the history of Busan s Western music and on the middle Third Period. In the previous studies, the investigator divided the history into three periods; the First Period is 81 years from 1892 to 1972, the Second Period from 1973 to 1982, and the Third Period from 1983 and 1986. In the study, I mainly reviewed the piano performances of each domain through newspaper articles in the middle Third Period(1987-1989). By checking the facts, I categorized the data according to recitals, piano concertos, duos, accompaniments, chamber music, disciples presentations, and others and put them in a diagram. There were 27 records about recitals, 21 about joint performances, 47 about accompanies, 8 about duos, 8 about chamber music, and 24 about disciples presentations and others. The middle Third Period witnessed an increase to the number of music majors including the piano in colleges. In addition, the students of the piano major did many activities, and the piano professors put on many research performances. In particular, the interest in high quality music rose after a professional performance hall was set up. The number of piano performances went up. The music culture of a higher level led to the explosion of performances to promote friendship around the 1990s. Conducting the research, I developed interest in the artistic aspects and trends of one piano and four hands and two pianos, which are two types of piano duo performance, which attracted interest in the early days of duo performance. The two types will present another task for my future study. And I will continue to invest my research efforts into the end of the Third Period and the Fourth Period of the piano performance history in Busan s Western music history in order to complete my whole study project.
