The purpose of this study is to explore the developing method of music lesson through analyzing contextual knowledge in music class. The content of this study is theoretic exploration about the context knowledge, the contextual knowledge in music, the contextual knowledge in music education. The research method is collecting 19 distinguished music classes from website of Local/Provincial Office of Education, and analyzing mention about contextual knowledge as who, what, when, where, how, why in each music class. The conclusion is that the contextual knowledge is almost not found in music classes, and the reason is supposed that the teacher is not interested in it and the most music education research in Korea tends to aesthetic theory. The suggestion is as follows. First, it is necessary to make music textbook composed of the music with a great store of contextual knowledge and related stories. Second, it is necessary to teach teachers and pre-teachers focusing on the contextual knowledge. Third, it is necessary to concern the referential viewpoint further more in research of music education
