간질환자의 스트레스 지각 및 대응전략에 대한 연구

A Study on Stress Perception and Coping Strategy of Epileptic Patients

We assessed the difference of stress perception between 97 diagnosed epileptic patients and 99 controls, using with the Global Assessment of Recent Scale(GARS) and psychological asspects including coping strategy of epileptic patients were investigated for their clinical use. The results were as follows ; 1) Epiletptc patients, compared with normal controls, showed significantly high work, job & school, interpersonal, changes in relationships, sick or injury, financial and overall global scores,、 but not showed markedly high unusual happenings and change or no change in routine scores on the GARS. 2) A mong epileptic patients, the epileptic patients with long duration of illness(〉5yr) showed significantly high scores in the aspect of work, job and school on the GARS. The epileptic patients with more frequent attacks(more than 1 /y r) showed significantly high scores o f the change or no change in routine on the GAR S. The difference between the late onset group( 〉 20yr) and the early onset group( < 20yr) on the G AR S was n o statistically insignificant. 3) In the aspect of coping strategy, redefinition was the most frequently used in the epileptic patients. In addition , intellectualism, suppression and flexibility were often used, b u t externalization, tension reduction and isolation were rarely used. Frequently used coping strategies in the early onset group are tension reduction and self-pity. Frequently used coping strategy in the short duration of illness is reversal of affect. 4) Most of the patients tended to deny their vulnerabilities bu t among them, denial, depression, frustration and repudiation of other s assistance were remarkable. The patients with more frequent attacks tended to used isolation and closed time perspective. 5) The psychological problems of the patients w ho showed confrontation were not easily resolved. The psychological problems of the patients who showed helplessness, emotional turmoil, frustration, depression and isolation were n ot easily resolved. From the results, we concluded that epileptic patients had higher scores of stress perception than normal controls and that noted the association between stress and occurrence of seizures. C onfrontation had a positive effect o n resolution of the psychological problems. The psychological problems of the patients who showed helplessness, emotional turmoil, frustration, depression and isolation were not easily resolved.
