The recognition of abnormal behavior in systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) is not new. As early as 1875,Hebra and Kaposi reported this and in 1990,Sir William Osier noted that SLE was frequently accompanied by mental and neurological changes. Neuropsychiatric manifestations are now being reported in up to 60% of patients with SLE. Psychiatric abnormalities that can occur in SLE include psychosis, neurosis, affective disorders and organic mental syndromes. S L E makes cameo appearances in tables and charts outlining medical problems that present with psychiatric symptoms, but rarely gets full attention. We here report a case of SLE associated with the symptoms of organic mood disorder in a 21 -year-old woman and review about the psychiatric aspect of SLE.
