Objectives : For examine the effects of social and psychological factors on drinking behaviors among Korean, Korean-Chinese and Chinese Alcohol Abuse group. Methods : The audiors developed the questionnare and 114 Korean, 105 Korean-Chinese, 129 Chinese Alcohol Abuse patients were examined by this questionnare. Results : 1) The average amount of alcohol comsumption and the absorbed amount of alcohol into body were the highest in Korean Alcohol Abuse group(p <0.001). 2) In terms of social drinking behavior, the effect of blind drunkenness and group solidarity factors were lower for Korean Alcohol Abuse group than others(p〈0.05) and business purpose and controlling drinking behavior is also lower for Korean Alcohol Abuse group(p〈0.001). 3) There were significant differences in the drinking motivations that the emotional motivation was higher for Korean Alcohol Abuse group than the others(p〈0.001),while social adjustment motivation was lower for Korean group Than Chinese group(p <0.001). The unpleasant(p〈0.05) and the pleasant response of drinking(p <0.001) were lower for Korean Alcohol Abuse group than others. 4) Neither social factors nor psychological factors predicted the average amount of alcohol comsumption for Korean Alcohol Abuse group, while the age(p <0.001),emotional motivation (p〈0.004) and social adjustment motivation(p<0.04) predicted the average amount of alcohol comsumption for Korean-Chinesee Alcohol Abuse group and age for Chinese group(p〈0.04). 5) Any variables could not predict the frequency of drinking for Korean, Korean-Chinese and Chinese Alcohol Abuse groups. Conclusion : These results suggest that the social factor and the psychological factors have not so much the effects as physical variables on the average amount of alcohol consumption and the frequency of drinking for Korean Alcohol Abuse group.
