Validation Study of Halstead-Reitan Neuropsychological Test Battery -Korean Version

Objectives ： This research was performed to verify the validity of Halstead-Reitan neuropsychological test-Korean version for discrimination of cerebral functional impairment of head trauma group, psychiatric patient group and normal control group. The result could be used as baseline data for standardizing Halstead-Reitan neuropsychological test-Korean version. Methods ： Halstead-Reitan neuropsychological test-Korean version was given to 31 patients with head trauma, diagnosis of which was confirmed with clinical features and laboratory findings, 28 psychiatric outpatients without organic brain lesion, and 28 normal controls. Ttests and MANOVA were used to compare the results of neuropsychologicai tests of the three groups. Results ： Head trauma group was discriminated from control group and psychiatric outpatient group in category test, tactual performance test(total time, memory, location, dominant hand, nondominant hand, both hands), Seashore rhythm Test, finger tapping test, trail making test A, B, digit symbol test, and sensory perception test, impairment index with significant differences by ttests. Speech sound perception test did not show statistically significant differences between head trauma group and psychiatric outpatient group, possibly due to small sample size. MANOVA of neuropsychological test results among the three groups showed statistically significant differences(F =4.55，p=0.00). Conclusion ： We could verify the validity of Halstead-Reitan neuropsychological test-Korean version for discriminating cerebral functional impairment of head trauma group from that of psychiatric patient group and normal control group
