전문 대학 실용음악 혹은 대중음악 전공자의 직업 능력 개발 방안에 관한 연구

A Study on the Vocational Education and Training for graduates of Applied Music & Popular Music

Over the last few years, an increasing number of courses in applied, popular and/or broadcasting music has been available in many Korean colleges for which entrance competition turns out remarkably high. The popularity of these courses seems to be continuing for the time being even though the job market involving the specific expertise remains rather limited. While a very limited number of graduates is actually given the opportunity of serving as professional artists after graduation, the education has rather been focused on teaching how to become a musician by occupation. Under the circumstances, this study has for its object finding educational methodology aiming at improving vocational capability of the music graduates for more than just playing and helping them work different professions after graduation. Interviews and written surveys have been done vis-à-vis current students and graduates of Popular music at Suwon womens College. To be brief, most students are seeking for continuing opportunities of studying their major as well as more and better OJT. As such, the following suggestions are made at the writers end. First of all, students turned out to have some kind of fantasy and, and the same time, insecure feeling about their future jobs. Hence, more practical job training programs shall be available from the beginning of their college schooling. Secondly, more opportunities of OJT shall be given by means of multiple school terms, learning community and field practice term system as well as comprehensive curriculum development in association with other majors. Third, an advanced program for graduates shall be put into practice on a continuing basis under the terms of life-long education. Fourth, a Vocational Qualification System shall be introduced, and shared by all Applied/Popular music colleges in the nation. This way, more and better opportunities of vocational education beyond  textbooks can be given and, in the end, it will be possible to achieve the social goal of quality life based on life-long education.
