Comparative Consideration Between the NeoConfucian Thought of “Ko- Wu-Chih-Chih The Extension of Knowledges Lies on the Investigation of Things”) A nd the Psychodynamic Understanding

Objects : The epistemological methodology of the NeoConfucian thought, “Ko-Wu-Chih- Chih” ( “The extension of knowledges lies on the investigation of things”), was compared with the psychodynamic understanding of the modem psychiatry. Methods ： Prominent NeoConfiicianists of the Middle Ages were Chen Tzu, Chu Tzu and Wang Yang Ming. Their theories about “Ko-Wu-Chih-Chih” were chosen as the subjects of this considerations. Results ： 1) The NeoConfucian viewpoint of “Ko-Wu” was consistent with that of “working-through”. 2) The NeoConfucian viewpoint of “Chih-Chih” was consistent with that of self-realization”. Conclusion : The NeoConfucian thought about “Ko-Wu-Chih-Chih” was similiar with the psychodynamic understanding trying to gain “insight”
