This study was designed to investigate stress perception and coping strategy of the families of alcoholic patients. We have surveyed 50 subjects of the family members of alcoholic inpatients and 50 subjects of the family members of schizophrenic inpatients and 50 normal individuals as control group. The authors administered a self-report method with 8 item questionnaire, global assessment of recent stress scale, for measurement of stress perception and 30 item questionnaire which measures six forms of coping strategy ; confronting, self-controlling, seeking social support, accepting responsibility, escape-avoidance, plantiful problem solving. The results showed that the family of alcoholic patients didn’t have adequate coping strategy while they were in more stress than control group in most stress items. A nd more stress is perceived in parents, spouse and family members of lower educational or economic state
