The Correlation between Aggression and Depressive Symptom in Patients with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Objects : This study was designed to examine the clinical correlation between aggression and depressive symptom which frequently exist in patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder( A D H D ) . Methods : Fourty seven clinic-referred outpatients with A D H D , 6—11 years o f age were assessed by using Child Behavior Checklist(CBCL) and Children’s Depression Rating Scale(CDRS). The authors compared the severity of depressive symptom between aggressive and non-aggressive A D H D group and studied the correlation of aggression with depressive symptom. Results : We found that the scores o f aggression factor in CB CL were reversely correlated with the scores o f C D R S and non-aggressive A D H D group displayed more depressive pattern comparing to aggressive group. Conclusion • These findings suggest that there is reverse correlation between aggression and depressive symptom in patients with A D H D .
