Family burden was investigated in 119 principal ceretakers of schzophrenic patient Semistructured interview and self-report were performed using the questionnaires prepared by the author and Patient Rejection Scale to investigate objective burden, subjective burden, degree of patient rejection and change o f the burden with passages of time. The results were as follows : 1) The order of objective burden was bizarre behavior(58.2%), withdrawal(22.7 % ), aggressive behavior(l4.5%). 2) The order of subjective burden was pity, repentance, resentment, worry about the patient after their own death and guilt The subjective burden was significantly greater for the male patient than the females(F=5.05, p<C0.05) and mother was significantly more affected when patient was male(F=4.42, p〈0.05). 3) Rejection felt against the patient was expressed in an unexpectedly high frequency. The Patient Rejection Scale correlated with length of illness(r= .26, p<0.05). 4) Family members have reported felt burden over time as follows : increasing(382 % ) decreasing( 25.8%) and no change(36%).
