Correlation of Origins and Chronology in Korean Proto-historic Archaeology

한국 원사고고학의 기원론은 좁게는 서북한지역, 넓게는 중국 동북지역과 연해주지역의 고고자료와 한반도 남부 고고자료와의 상사성 추구로부터 출발하여 주민 이주와 문화 전파의 논리로 설명되는 것이 보편적이었다. 그러나 새로운 고고자료의 기원을 밝히는 작업은 문헌기록이라는 전제로부터 자유롭지 못해 이주와 전파의 배경이 事實이 아닌 史實로 해석되었다. 그 연대 또한 자연스레 史實로 결정되었다. 본고에서는 한국 원사시대의 고고자료를 키워드 중심으로 학사와 현황을 파악하여 기원론과 연대론의 관계에 대한 비판적 견해를 제시하였다. 한국 원사시대의 기원과 연대를 좌지우지했던 史實인 연국의 동호경략, 위만조선의 성립, 한사군 설치라는 역사적 배경은 신자료의 증가와 중국 자료의 재검토를 통해, 그리고 탄소14연대에 대한 이해 증진과 데이터 축적에 의해 신연대론과 충돌하고 있다. 탄소14연대와 대세론의 대립은 원사시대부터 본격적으로 시작된다. 고고학에서 역연대 추정은 자연과학과 서로 보완적인 관계여야 하나 한국 원사고고학에서는 물과 기름처럼 그 대립이 첨예하다. 하지만 그 대립은 보편적인 고고학적 연대결정법이 아닌 史實과의 대립이다. 철기 출현에 대한 배경으로 ‘낙랑→위만→진개’라는 史實의 키워드만 바뀌면서 전혀 다른 철의 역사를 그려 내고 있는 것이 대표적인 사례이다. 한국 원사고고학에서 기원론은 史實論과 탄소14연대에 대한 인식의 재고를 통해 史實에 동조시키는 풍조에서 탈피하여 다시금 시발점에 서야할 것이다

In Korean proto-historic archaeology, the origins of archeological specimens has always been searched for in the northern regions of the Korean Peninsula. Fragmentary records from historical sources have provided the momentum for views on cultural inflow from the northern regions of the Korean Peninsula. Time periods have also been decided by these fragmentary records. However, such methods are neither objective nor scientific. The estimation of calendar dates, which is objective and scientific using radiocarbon dating, comes into conflict with archaeologists from the proto-historic age. As a matter of fact, it comes into conflict with the historical literature. Actually, this literature comes from the historical records of China, in which the culture and history of the border areas are depicted subjectively. Nevertheless, archaeologists have continued to identify origins and periods according to the history of China. Due to this, changes in terms of time period have resulted in changes in the origin and emergence of archeological specimens. This paper criticized this strange phenomenon present in Korean protohistoric archaeology, and encouraged the active use of radiocarbon dates. Lastly, it is emphasized that the historic records of the proto-historic age is not basis to decide the calender dates.
