Dysmorphophobia is a preoccupation with some imagined defect in appearance in a normalappearing person : or, if a slight physical anomaly is present, the concern is grossly excessive. This is a study of 3 cases of deysmorphophobia treated by pschoanalysis. All of them are depressive and have obsessive personality. They have dysmorphophobic body parts ; the nose, the ears or warts which reflect an identification with their mother. The underlying conflict of two women patients is the Oedipus complex. The third case has obsessive-compulsive symptoms along with dysmorphophobia which was developed as a defence against narcissistic injury
