Objects : This study was designed to further examine the serotonergic system in Obsessive- Compulsive Disorder(OCD). Methods : The plasma concentrations of prolactin and cortisol as well as body temperature responses following the oral administration of MK-212(6-chloro-2-[ 1 -piperazinyll-pyrazine), a serotonin agonist, and placebo, were studied in 15 patients with OCD and 13 healthy subjects. Results: The two groups did not differ significantly in basal body temperature, plasma prolactin or cortisol levels. Both the prolactin and body temperature responses to oral administration of MK212(20mg) were significantly blunted in the patients with OCD as compared to those of healthy subjects. Conclusion : These findings are consistent with previous reports of decreased serotonergic responsivity in OCD.
