Objective : This study was conducted to explore the relationship between questionable dementia and mild dementia. Methods : Thirty-one elderly people diagnosed as having questionable dementia and 39 diagnosed as having mild dementia in a prevalence study were followed up about 1.5 years later. Results :Changes in diagnosis, MMSEK score, and short- and long-term memories during the period were not significantly different between the two groups. Conclusion : It may be suggested that the two are not different and should be considered as the same one, mild or early dementia, in epidemiological studies. The reason for deterioration was dementia of the Alzheimer type in almost all, while the reason for improvement was of vascular origin in majority.
