정신병환자 가족의 심리적 반응과 대응전략에 관한 연구

A Study on Psychological Reaction and Coping Strategy in the Family Members of Psychotic Patients

This study is about severities o f depression and anxiety shown by the family members of psychotic patients, demographic variables and other variables related to mental disorders that seemed to influence them. Also, the authors investigated coping strategy o f the family members with patients mental disorder and their correlations to severities of depression and anxiety. The subjects were 107 families of psychotic patients who had been admitted to neuropsychiatric inpatient units of Hallym University Hospital from Oct 1st,1992 to Feb. 27th, 1993 and 107 control families without psychotic patients who were working either in Hallym University Hospital or in Korea Veterans Hospital. The results were as follows : 1) The Family members of psychotic patients were more depressed and anxious than control group(p<C.0 l), 2) The families with lower incomes showed significantly high degree of Beck Depression Inventory scores and the trait-anxiety of State-Trait Anxiety Inventory scores, while the families with low educational level showed significantly high degree in Beck Depression Inventory scores only. 3) The differences in Beck Depression Inventory and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory within the subject group according to sex, age, marital status, relationship to patient, diagnosis, duration of illness, and frequency of admission were not statistically significant 4) Coping strategies used more frequently by the family members of psychotic patients are redefinition,intellectualism, suppression, shared concern and flexibility. 5) The Beck Depression Inventory and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory were correlated positively with fatalism in the family members of psychotic patients. The Trait-Anxiety Inventory was correlated negatively with confrontation in the family members of psychotic patients.
