Ward Atmosphere Perception of Chronic Schizophrenics — Results of Before & after Therapeutic Community Approach —

The authors have administered therapeutic community approach during 3 years, within one medicaid psychiatric ward of Yong-In mental hospital, located in Kyunggi-do, since May 1990. The results were as follows : 1) The group under therapeutic community approach got more higher score in automomy and support sub scales of ward atmosphere scale (WAS) than the group under custodial administered ward. 2) Within the therapeutic community approached ward, the group after milieu therapy administered got more higher score in spontaneity and more lower score in staff control subscales o f ward atmosphere scale than the group before milieu therapy administered. 3) The group under milieu therapy from the time of admission got more higher score in autonomy, spontaneity, anger & aggression subscales of ward atmosphere scale than the group which experienced milieu therapy in the course of their admission
