This study was designed to evaluate the possible influence of psychotropics on the TSH response to TRH in depressed patients and schizophrenic patients by using TRH stimulation test. The subjects were consisted of 86 depressed patients and 62 schizophrenic patients. They were divided again into medication group and medication-free group. The results were as follows : 1) There were no signicant differences of plasma levels of T3, T4, and Basal TSH between medication group and medication-free group in depressed patients as sell as in schizophrenic patients. 2) There were no significant difTemece of plasma levels of TSH at 15,30,60, and 90 minutes after infusion of TRH between medication group and medication-free group in depressed patients as well as in schizophrenic patients. 3) There were no significant differences for AmaxT SH values between medication group and medication-free group in depressed patients as well as in schizophrenic patients. 4) There were no significant differences for frequency rate of the blunted TSH response to TRH between medication group and medication-free group in depressed patients as well as in schizophrenic patients. In conclusion, this study suggested that psychotropics such as mianserin and haloperidol do not significantly influence TRH stimulation test
