To investigate the neuropsychiatric aspects of seborrheic dermatitis, the authors administered Beck’s Depression Inventory and Zung’s Self-Rating Anxiety Scale to seborrheic dermatitis patients who visitied the department of dermatology, Inje University Medical College, Sanggye Paik Hospital. As compared with the healthy and the neurotic controls, the results were as follows: 1) In self-rating anxiety scale, the anxiety score was significantly differentiated from each other. 2) In total score of BDI,the patients with seborrheic dermatitis and the neurotic control had signiflcanly higher scores than healthy control. 3) In factor analysis of BDI, the somatic symptom subscale was significantly differentiated from each other. In the dissatisfaction on everyday life and interpersonal relationship subscale, the patients with seborrheic dermatitis and the neurotic control showed significantly higher scores than healthy control. 4) The above findings suggest that the patients with seborrheic dermatitis are more susceptible to emotional stress and are preoccupied with their somatic symptoms
