난치성 정신분열병 환자에서 Haloperid이과 Carbamazepine 병용투여의 효과에 관한 연구 - 이중 맹검법에 의한 연구-

Combined Use of Carbamazepine and Haloperidol in Treatment-Resistant Schizophrenics — A Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled Study —

We studied carbamazepine plus haloperidol vs placebo plus haloperidol in 37-treatment-resistant schizophrenics with conventional antipsychotics in a placebo controlled double-blind design. Treatment-resistance was determined on the basis of documented failure to respond to treatment with at least three neuroleptic drugs from two different chemical classes. The results were as follows : 1) Combined use of haloperidol and carbamazepine did not show significant clinical efficacy in BPRS, BPRS subscales and N O S IE scores. 2) The ESRS scores were not different after CB Z trial. 3) There were 4-responders (defined as more than 20% of improvement in BPRS total scores on 6th week of CBZ trial), who were older and had shorter duration of illness than nonresponder. These responder showed significant improvement on the subscores of anxiety-depression cluster in BPRS. Our findings suggest that combined use of haloperidol and carbamazepine might be useful for a few treatment-resistant schizophrenics.
