錦江中流域 松菊里文化段階 社會의 威信構造에 대한 試論的 考察

A Study of Prestige and Value Structures of Songgungni-Assemblage Societies in the Midstream of the Gum River Basin

송국리문화단계 사회의 계층화 여부 문제의 일환으로 당시의 동검이나 석검이 지배계층의 전유물인‘위신재’(prestige goods)였는가 하는 논의가 활발히 이루어지고 있다. 그러나 정작 당시 사회의 ‘위신’(prestige)에 대해서는 구체적인 논의가 시도된 경우가 드물다. 이에 본고에서는 위신을 ‘고유의 문화구조에 따라 구분되는 행위자의 범주에 걸맞은 품행을 보인 이에게 타인들이 수여하는 사회적 명예’로 정의하고, 송국리문화단계 사회에서 중요하게 여겨졌던 범주와 가치 및 위신을 검토해 보고자 하였다. 이러한 목적으로 송국리유형을 구성하는 제 요소가 밀집되어 있는 금강중류 남부지역을 대상으로 하여, 생활유구와 분묘군에서 각기 어떠한 범주를 통해 어떠한 가치와 위신이 어떠한 방식으로 추구되고 협상되었는지를 비교하였다. 이를 통해 송국리유적과 그 인근 유적에서는 한 집단 내 차이를 위계적으로 통합하여 서로 다른 집단 간 성공적으로 결연을 맺는 행위가 보편적으로 추구되었다면, 송국리유적과 거리를 두고 있는 유적에서는 한 집단 내에서 서로 다른 역할을 보완하고 조정하는 것에 높은 가치와 위신이 부여되었을 가능성을 제시하였다.

Previous studies of Songgungni-assemblage societies tend to reduce various social dimensions of Songgungni-assemblage materials to the problem of social stratification. In opposition to that tendency, this paper tried to understand the prestige and value structures of Songgungni-assemblage societies in the midstream of the Gum River basin, where diverse elements of the Songgungni assemblage are clustered as a set. For the purpose of this, distributions of material resources and ways of interacting in daily settings were compared with ways in which mortuary categories are represented. As a result, it was suggested that while succeeding in inter-group alliances based on hierarchical organization of intra-groups was widely sought in sites near Songgungni, complementing and balancing different individuals and groups was highly valued in other sites.
