A Case of Pica Persisting Till Age 11

We experienced a case of eleven year old girl who developed pica at one year old of her age which was persisting till eleven year old. She was operated on for trichobezoar. She had neither tension nor reduction of it when she picked and ate the hair. She showed severe attachment to her mother as compared to her age. The psychodynamic approach to this case revealed the importance of psychosocial aspect in pica. This case brings up the need for the psychiatric follow-up treatment for the reduction of the mortality and persistence of pica
