Although (at) the core of psychiatric resident training is learning psychotherapy, no definite learning objective goals have been offered until now. In this paper, I proposed a goal for psychiatric resident training as well as detailed objectives. Psychotherapy training of psychiatric residents requires not only individual intensive psychotherapy but also comprehensive and flexible psychotherapy for every psychiatric treatment. In this paper, I present detailed objectives of intensive and supportive psychotherapy, but with more emphasize on education of supportive psychotherapy. To achieve these objectives, the current methods used for the supervision require changes. The goal and recommendations for U.S psychiatric residency training are also compared. Finally, I review the nature of psychotherapy supervision and proposed direction for change of psychotherapy supervision
