A Case of Violent Crime associated with Neurofibromatosis, Mild Mental Retardation, Psychosis, and Alcohol Abuse

  • 2

The case of a 20 year-old single Caucasian male with neurofibromatosis (Von Recklinghausen’s disease) associated with mild mental retardation, alcohol abuse, and organic brain syndrome (OBS) with schizophrenia like psychosis, who committed violent crime, rape and murder, is described. The relationship between his violence and mental illness, and the close correlation between his criminal violence and mild mental retardation, substance abuse, and schizophrenia are discussed. There are a substantial number of reports regarding the association of criminal violence and mild mental retardation, substance abuse, and schizophrenia but this is the first case report to document the correlation between criminal violence and neurofibromatosis.
