만성 피로 증후군(chronic fatigue syndrome)은 최근 다시 개념화되기 시작한 생물–정신–사회적 질환 이다. 그러나 최근에는 바이러스 병인론에 기초를 둔 새로운 가설에 따라 아직 효과가 불확실한 내과적 단일 요법이 많이 시도되고 있으며, 정신과적인 포괄적 치료적 접근은 도외시되는 경향이 있다. 이에 본 저자는 정신 치료와 정신 약물 치료로 성공적으로 치료된 만성 피로 증후군 환자를 보고하고, 올바른 치료적 접근에 관한 문헌들을 고찰하였다.
Chronic fatigue syndrome has been recently reconceptualized as a biopsycho-social disorder. Although the up-to-date pathophysiological hypothesis of this disorder in Europe & America is based on viral origin, no medical therapy has been proven effective in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome. The authors report a case with chronic fatigue syndrome treated successfully with combined psychotherapy and antidepressant. Emphasizing the effectiveness and utility of the psychiatric treatment, we also review the related literatures about the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome.
