  • 18

The authors compared 30 depressive patients with 32 normal controls to see the change of immunity in major depressive disorder and study the relationship between altered immunity and variables such as sex, age, and symptom severity. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Percent of suppressor T cell in depressive patients was significantly lower than that of normal controls and IgA concentration of depressive patients was significantly higher than that of normal controls. 2) In the depressive patient group, male patients showed significantly lower number in total lymphocyte, number and percentage of B cell, and IgA concentration than in the female patients. 3) In depressive patient group, a positive correlation was found between percentage in lymphocyte and age and in control group, positive correlations were found among percent of T lymphocyte, number and percentage of helper T cell and age. Negative correlation between IgM and the symptom severity assessed by HDRS was observed in depressive patient group.
