Dental implants are acceptable alternative capable of providing bone-anchored fixed prosthrses for improved quality of life for many patients in these days. Many researches developed and manufactured several different types of dental implant materials. Currently used pure titanium has relatively low hardness and strength which possibly limits its ability to resist functional load as a dental implants. Also, Ti-6A1-4V has potential problems such as corrosion resistance, biocompatibility, etc. The selected Zr, Nb, Ta, Pd, In constituents could improve mechanical strength, corrosion resistance and biocompatibility compared that of currently used materials such as Ti, Ti-6A1-4V. Newly developed titanium based alloys (Ti-xIn-4Nb-4Ta-0.2Pd) which do not contain toxic metallic components were evaluated about mechanical properties, biocompatibility. The conclusions were as follows: 1. Mechanical properties of the new composed titanium based alloys demonstrated close hardness and tensile strength values to Ti-15Zr-4Nb-4Ta-0.2Pd alloy, pure Ti. 2. New designed titanium based alloys showed stable corrosion resistance similar to pure Ti but better than Ti-6A1-4V, Ti-15Zr-4Nb-4Ta-0.2Pd alloy. 3. Cell culture test showed that the new composed titanium based alloys have similar cell response compared with pure Ti, Ti-6A1-4V, Ti-15Zr-4Nb-4Ta-0.2Pd alloy with no cell adverse reactions. On the basis of the data from this experiment, it can be concluded that newly developed titanium based alloys(TixIn-4Nb-4Ta-0.2Pd) are able to provide good biocompatibility properties to warrant further investigations of its potential as a new biomaterials for dental implant
