The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of guided bone regeneration according to graft materials with titanium implants placed into dehisnced ridge in dogs. Six mongrel dogs, 12 titanium implants (Bmnemaric system), bioresorbable membranes (BioM esh) were used. Two implant sites were drilled into 3.75 m m diameter, 10 mm length at the mandibular ridge in each dog and dehiscence defects adjacent to implant were prepared with 5 mm height, 3 mm width in size. Deproteinized porous bovine bone mineral (Bio-Oss) was filled into dehiscence defect, and covered with bioresorbable membrane in the test group 1. In test group 2, demineralized freeze-dried bone (DFD B) and hydroxyapatite (HA), mixed with 1:1 ratio, were filled and covered with membrane. W ithout graft material, defect was covered with membrane in control. After 14 weeks, the authors investigated bone regeneration around implant in clinically and histologically. The results were as follows. 1. All of the 12 implants were osseointegrated clinically after 14 weeks and new bone formation can be seen with guided bone regeneration. 2. Following a healing period of 14 weeks, the amount of increase in ridge height and width was the most in test group 1. 3. In test group 1,there was more increase in ridge height compared to control (PS0.05). 4. There was no significant difference in ridge height and width changes between test group 1 and test group 2. In conclusion, the guided bone regeneration technique could be an applicable method to regenerate the bony defects around implants, and more effective when accompanied with the graft materials such as Bio-Oss and D FD B + HA.
