Implant-supported fixed partial dentures provide a treatment alternative for patients with missing posterior teeth. The original recommendations regarding the use of the Branemadc implants advised that the implants should be freestanding from the natural teeth due to the difference in mobility. However, in some cases with anatomic limitations of space for implants or failure of osseointegration of implants, it would be desirable to connect implants and natural teeth in a fixed partial denture. Potential problems with this treatment approach include broken and loosened implant components and intrusion of the natural teeth. Although numerous theories have been proposed to explain the phenomenon of the natural teeth intrusion with implant-connected fixed partial dentures, the cause o f intrusion remains unknown. This article reviews the literatures about the natural teeth intrusion connected to the implants in fixed partial dentures and reports the clinical cases to help preventing intrusion.
