전곡융(錢谷融)의 인격 및『문학은 인학임을 논함(論“文學是人學”)』에 대한 연구

A Study on Qian Gurong’s Personality and Literary is the science about human being

전곡융(錢谷融, 1919~2017)은 중국의 저명한 문학평론가이다. 그는 호풍(胡風) 등 이른바 “반동문인”들에 대한 권력의 탄압이 누그러지고 창작과 사상의 자유를 보장하는 “쌍백방침”이 실시된 직후인 1957년 막심고리끼의 말을 인용한 제목의 논문『문학은 인학임을 논함(論“文學是人學”)』을 발표하여 사람은 문학의 현실반영 목적에 이용되는 도구가 아니며 사람의 진실한 감정과 생활을 표현하는 것이야 말로 무엇보다 중요한 문학의 사명임을 역설하였다. 이는 모택동의『연안문예강화』이후, 문학은 공·농·병 계급의 이익을 최우선의 사명으로 삼고 계급성의 구현을 위해 복무해야 한다는 중공중앙의 공식적 방침에 대한 도전이었던 것이다. 전곡융은 문학의 가치를 평가하는데 있어 인도주의야 말로 계급성에 우선하는 최소한의 기준이라고 판단하였으며 여러 문학 대가들의 사상을 인용하여 이를 증명하려 하였다. 좌파적 교조주의가 득세하던 시절 전곡융은 그의 인도주의적 문학관으로 인해 무수한 비판에 시달렸지만 결코 자신의 관점을 바꾸지 않았다. 진실과 관용, 타인에 대한 배려와 이해로서 험난한 시대를 묵묵히 인내하였던 전곡융의 삶과 그의『文學是人學』사악한 세상의 탐욕과 이기심을 깨우쳐주는 소중한 교과서이다.

Qian Gurong, a famous Chinese literary critic, published his masterpiece Literary is the Science about Human Being in 1957, when he was working as an instructor in Huadong Normal University. In this sensational work, he argued “pure hierarchy exists only in one’s head, rather than between specific people living real lives”, rebuffing the official rule of the administration that the primary purpose of literature is the realization of hierarchy and ‘affinity to the people’ after “Talks at the Yenan Forum on Art and Literature”. Inspired by “letting a hundred flowers bloom, a hundred schools of thought contend”, Literary is the Science about Human Being declared confrontation against the far-left ideology established in China in the 1950s by paying more regards to individuality of characters in his works than hierarchal commonalities and accentuating humanity over affinity to the people. This resulted in continuous oppression on Qian Gurong until the Chinese Economic Reform in 1980, which he endured with only his patience. In this study, the creation background and argument of Literature is the Science about Human Being will be examined. Furthermore, the authoritarianism and anti democracy of China prior to the Economic Reform that brought numerous writers under indictment will be considered.
