대중교육을 위한 문화유적의 해석(Interpretation)에 관한 기본연구

이 연구는 문화유적을 역사교육 또는 문화관광 자원으로 적극 활용하기 위해, 유적이 가지는 교육적 가치를 먼저 알아보고 이러한 유적의 교육적 가치를 적극적으로 활용하기 위한 해석 (interpretation)의 중요성과 그 방법상에 대한 문제를 이론적으로 논의하는데 그 연구목적이 있다. 문화유적이 가지는 교육적 가치는 대상 문화유적에 대한 역사 문화적 사실을 인식시키고 관련 정보를 제공하는 기능이외에도 이러한 교육적 효과를 통한 문화유적의 보존과 관리 측면에서도 큰 중요성을 지닌다. 문화유적의 교육적 활용과 함께 유적 보존의식을 고취하기 위해서는 유적의 교육적 가치를 잘 활용하여 유적이 가지는 교육적 메시지를 어떻게 잘 전달하고 방문객을 설득시킬 수 있느냐 하는 해석의 문제에 대한 많은 연구와 실천적 노력이 필요하다. 해석이란 여러 가지 전달 매개체를 사용하여 유적에 대한 올바른 이해를 제공하고 이를 바탕으로 유적의 보존의식을 이끌어 냄과 더불어, 유적에 대한 의미를 부여하여 유적이 교육적 그러고 관광자원으로 유용하게 활용되게 하는 효과적인 수단이다. 문화유적의 해석프로그램의 개발과 운영에 있어서는 주요 대상층에 대한 설정과 그에 알맞은 프로그램의 적용이 현실적으로 우선 전제되어야 하며, 그들에게 알맞은 수준의 교육적 정보와 지식을 다양한 형태의 해석적 도구와 방법을 사용하여 제공하게 된다. 다음으로는 방문객에게 제공하고자하는 교육적 메시지를 잘 담은 해석의 주제를 먼저 도출하여야 하며 선정된 주제에 맞추어 다양한 형태의 해석 방법과 기술들이 개별적 또는 복합적으로 사용된다. 마지막으로 문회유적에서 운영 중인 해석프로그램이 방문객에 대해 의도된 교육적 효과를 내는지에 대한 철저한 평가는 해당 해석프로그램의 계속적 운영에 있어서 큰 중요성을 가진다. 일반적으로 전시를 포함한 해석프로그램의 평가는 크게 기획 단계에서의 평가, 개발 과정 중의 평가, 그리고 완성 후 평가 등 3단계의 평가를 거쳐 그 결과를 해석프로그램의 개발과 운영에 계속 반영한다. 문화유적 현장에서의 해석프로그램의 개발과 운영은 현실적으로 많은 인력과 재정적인 뒷받침이 요구되는 일로 계속적인 관심과 지원이 필요하며, 문화유적의 관리측면에서 기존의 하드웨어의 구축에 관한 관심에 병행하여 앞으로는 해석프로그램 같은 유적 활용 소프트웨어의 개발과 운영에 더욱 많은 관심을 가져야 한다.

The purpose of this study is to review educational value of cultural heritage sites first and then, to examine the importance of interpretation and interpretation methods and process briefly to utilize cultural heritage sites as important resources tor public education and cultural tourism, The educational value of cultural heritage sites is not limited to provide visitors with various information on historical facts and events related to the cultural heritage sire, but to provide the public with a new recognition of the importance of the preservation of cultural heritage sites by understanding the site well, In order to utilize the educational value of me cultural heritage site, interpretation must be emphasized as an important element of cultural heritage sites management and much attention should be given on the development and practice of interpretation programs In each cultural heritage site, In order to develop an interpretation program of the site, a specific target audience must be defined first to find most rescuable scope and direction of an interpretation program and then, site specific interpretation themes (or a theme) should be developed from the interpretive topic, According to these defined elements, an interpretation program(s) is established by using various interpretation methods and techniques in order to provide visitors with useful information and knowledge on the site efficiently, Interpretation methods and techniques are various as defined by various ways and most effective methods or techniques are employed as a specific interpretation program is presented most effectively The evaluation processes In planing stage, during developing stage, and after completion of interpretation program development ale important processes to find out any problems of planed interpretation program and to revise or update the interpretation program. Conclusively. the direction of cultural heritage sites management in Korea has focused on the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage sites to preserve me original conditions of cultural heritage sites so far. This direction on current practice on current heritage sites management should be changed to more active utilization of the sites and interpretation of the sires is a way to accomplish the this goal.
