The Roles and Tasks of the University Museum

대학박물관은 대학의 중요 교육지원 시설이자 일반 시민들에게도 공개된 문화시설이다. 과거에는 발굴조사와 소장품 연구와 같은 학술활동에 업무가 집중되었으나, 근래에는 특색 있는 전시회나 다양한 교육프로그램의 마련 등과 같은 문화활동에 초점이 맞추어지고 있다. 그렇지만 대학 본부에서의 예산지원이 점차 축소됨에 따라 대학박물관의 활동 역시 많은 제약을 받고 있는 실정이다. 본고에서는 변화하는 시대를 맞아 위기에 처한 대학박물관이 이를 극복하기 위한 방안으로, 대학 구성원으로서의 역할과 지역의 대표적인 문화교육기관으로서의 역할을 수행하기 위해 부단한 노력을 기울여야 할 것임을 주장하였다. 이를 위해서는 가장 먼저 대학박물관으로서의 정체성을 확립할 필요가 있는데, 차별화된 특성화 전략이 담긴 중장기 및 단기 발전계획을 수립해야 할 것임을 지적하였다. 다음으로는 박물관의 가장 기본이라고 할 수 있는 유물의 수집 및 관리 능력을 강화해야 할 것임을 강조하였다. 특히 기증유물 특별전 개최 등을 통해 유물기증자의 대우 및 추가확보 방안에 대해 언급하였다. 세 번째로는 전시 기능의 강화 부분으로, 교내 여러 기관과의 협력을 통해 우수한 연구인력과 연구성과를 적극 활용하거나, 여러 박물관과의 협력을 통한 공동전시 내지는 순회전 개최 등을 통해 작은 예산으로 효과적인 전시가 가능할 수 있음을 주장하였다. 네 번째로는 전공 및 교양 교육과의 연계뿐만 아니라 교양강좌나 체험학습 등의 사회교육활동을 통해 박물관의 교육지원 기능을 강화해야 할 것임을 언급하였다. 마지막으로는 교내 연구인력을 활용한 소장품 연구나 학술 발굴조사 등의 연구활동 또한 꾸준히 유지해야 할 것임을 지적하였다.

The University Museum is the important educational support facility in university and the public cultural facility. The task was focused on academic activities such as excavation and research in the past, but nowadays has been focused on cultural activities such as exhibitions and educational programs. But university museum are facing the serious crisis due to the reduction of budget support. So, the purpose of this paper is to review the roles and tasks of the University Museum. To overcome this situation, it is necessary to establish the identity of the university museum itself. It is need to develop a differentiated medium-and long-term development plans for the museum. Second, it is need to strengthen further the artifact collection management capability. The special exhibition of donated artifacts is the one of good plans. Third, we must strengthen the exhibition features more. We can achieve the goal effectively even with a small budget, through the cooperation within the campus institution which have the many good researcher and outstanding outcomes. Fourth, The museum’s educational support should be strengthened. And Fifth, We also must keep the collection study and research activities such as excavation.
