대학박물관의 해외 교류 성과와 개선 방향 - 영남대학교박물관의 사례 -

Performances of International Exchanges of University Museum and Directions to Improve ― A Case study on Yeungnam University Museum ―

근래에 들어 한국의 대학은 급격한 학령인구의 감소로 인한 재정적 압박과 구조조정의 한가운데에 있다. 그 결과 대학 부속기관인 대학박물관도 인적·재정적인 면에서 상당한 어려움에 직면해 있다. 심지어 일부 대학박물관은 인력과 예산 부족으로 연구와 전시, 교육 등 제반 박물관 기능을 제대로 수행하지 못하고 그저 박물관만 지키는 상황에 처하기도 하였다. 이 글은 최근에 진행한 영남대학교박물관의 해외 교류 사업 성과를 소개하고 개선 방향을 제안함으로써 대학박물관이 직면한 인적·재정적·구조적 어려움에도 불구하고 대학박물관의 연구와 전시·교육 기능을 효과적으로 달성할 수 있는 방안을 마련하려는 데에 그 목적이 있다. 첫째, 해외 교류 사업은 대학의 정책적인 지원과 더불어 장기적인 비전을 가지고 진행되어야 한다. 대학에서는 박물관을 통해 문화정책과 그에 따른 홍보전략을 세운다면 투자된 비용에 비해 훨씬 많은 성과를 도출해 낼 수 있을 것이다. 둘째, 해외 교류 사업에 있어 해당 기관에서는 인적 교류를 선행할 필요가 있다. 그렇게 된다면 교류 사업에 따른 제도적·행정적인 어려움을 보완할 수 있고 장기적인 비전을 실천해 갈 수 있을 것이다. 셋째, 해외 교류 사업은 유관 기관이 함께 참여한다면 역할을 분담하여 업무량을 줄이거나 사업에 따른 예산부담도 줄일 수 있다. 넷째, 해외 지역 문화의 연구와 그 연구를 기반으로 하여 유물 구입, 이 구입 유물을 토대로 한 전시회를 개최, 그리고 전시와 연계한 교육이 한 고리로 연결될 수 있어야 한다. 마지막으로 해외 교류 사업을 진행함에 있어 해당 교류 기관이 공동의 주제를 두고 함께 연구하는 공동연구를 적극적으로 제안하는 바이다.

Korean universities in modern times worry about reduced budget due to reduced number of students. As a result, museums at universities which are affiliated organizations also have reduced budget to reduce manpower. Researches, displays, education, etc. which are entire functions and roles of museums could not be performed efficiently. What’s worse, the museums fell into ‘vicious circle of poverty’. However, despite of social and economic difficulties that the museums at universities face, this study tries to suggest good models of international exchanges projects through the case of Yeungnam University. First, international exchange projects should be proceeded based on long-term vision and active support from universities. If culture policies and promotional strategies are planned, better performances and results will be able to be led, compared with invested cost. Second, international exchange projects can supplement systematic and administrative difficulties through human resources exchanges and practice long-term vision. Third, international exchange projects can be shared by multi-centers for their roles. Budget can be used efficiently as well. Fourth, overseas cultures can be researched. Based on the researches, remains can be purchased. Exhibitions can be hosted with the remains. Exhibitions and relevant education have to be connected in a single link. Finally, study theme to research collective topic for both agencies is suggested to proceed the international exchange projects.
