서아프리카 국가의 지리 평가 특성 고찰 - WASSCE 지리 시험을 중심으로 -

Study on the Features of Geography Assessment of West African Countries: Focused on Geography Examinations of WASSCE

본 연구는 서아프리카 5개국의 지리 평가 특성을 고찰한 것이다. 분석 자료는 서아프리카 5 개국 공통의 2011-2015년 간 대학입학시험(WASSCE) 지리 문항이다. 이들 국가에서는 구체화, 체 계화한 지리 평가 요목을 마련해 놓음으로써 일선 학교 및 수험자들에게 지리 교육 및 평가의 방향성을 제공하고 있었고, 실제로 평가 요목과 시험 문항 간 정합성이 매우 높았다. 그리고 모 학문의 이원적 구조와 분류에 따라 편성된 문항 체제는 지리의 하위 주제 간 독립성뿐만 아니라 평가 내용 간 균형과 조화가 이루어질 수 있도록 기능하였다. 또한 선다형과 서답형을 비롯하여 수행형 등 다양한 평가 도구를 동원하여 학생들의 지리 지식의 구성 역량을 재고자 의도하고 있 는 가운데, 대체로 지리 탐구보다는 지리 지식의 측정을 주요 평가 요소로 삼고 있었다. 특히 서 아프리카 5개국의 지리 평가에서는 지도 해석, 도식화, 작도 등 도해력 기능과 함께 야외 답사 수행 역량 등 지리 방법론에 대한 이해 및 적용 능력을 중시하였다.

This study aims to elucidate the features of geography assessment of West African 5 countries. The materials for analysis are the geography examinations(2011-2015) of WASSCE. The geography syllabus of WASSCE take a role to suggest clearly assessment elements and learning direction of geography for candidates. The syllabus match highly the geography examinations. The main themes are practical and physical geography, economic and human geography, regional geography of candidate’s home country, regional geography of Africa. The geography assessment of WASSCE uses a multiple assessment instruments, i.e. objective questions, essay-type questions, performance of field work to measure candidates’ abilities. The geography assessment sets importance on more geography knowledges and understandings than geographical inquiry as behavioral domains. And the geography assessment of West African 5 countries emphasizes abilities to apply practical methods of geography, for example graphicacy skills and field works.
