Factors on Educational Aspirations of Students from Multicultural Families

이 연구는 다문화가정 자녀의 교육포부에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석하기 위해 수행되 었다. 이를 위해 2015년‘전국다문화가족실태조사’의 초․중․고생 5,619명의 자료를 활용 하였으며, 순서형 로짓모형을 이용하여 자료를 분석하였다. 분석결과 개인특성 중 연령, 교육지원 경험, 사교육 경험, 학교생활적응, 자아존중감, 학습지원에 대한 필요정도, 사 회․경제적 특성 중 부모의 학력과 가구소득, 가족특성 중 형제서열, 이민자의 국적 등은 광범위하게 교육포부 형성에 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 연구결과를 토대로 제언 을 제시하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 부모-자녀와의 관계, 자아존중감, 학교생활적응 등 사회․ 심리적 측면에 대한 관심과 지원이 필요하다. 둘째, 다문화가정 자녀에 대한 학습 및 진 로지원 프로그램을 제공함으로써 포부에 대한 설계와 결정에 도움을 제공할 필요가 있 다. 셋째, 다문화가정 부모를 대상으로 우리의 교육시스템, 제도, 정책, 문화 등을 이해할 수 있는 다양한 부모교육 프로그램을 제공하고, 전문가와 교육 및 지역공동체 형성을 통 해 교육에 대한 제한된 지식과 교육포부를 확장할 수 있는 네트워크와 기회를 제공할 필요가 있다.

The youth of multicultrual family in Korea likely to face a myriad of challenges in and out of school. Using the National Survey of Multicultural Families 2015, the factors affecting the educational aspirations of elementary and secondary school students from multicultural families were analyzed. An ordered logit model found that the personal, socioeconomic and family factors widely affected the students’ educational aspirations. Key findings and suggestions of this study are as follows; First, it is needed to provide proper social support to build parent-child relationship, self-esteem, and school adjustment. Self-esteem and school adjustment had direct and positive effects on migrant adolescent’s educational aspirations above and beyond the influence of low socioeconomic status. Second, the appropriate career guidance and academic support programs need to be provided. for students from multicultural families. Third, it is important to provide parents with education program for understanding Korean education system and educational aspirations. Professionals on aspirations and local communities may help immigrant parents to enhance knowledge and educational aspirations.
