막걸리 양조장의 기능과 문화유산 가치 - ‘칠곡양조장’의 사례를 중심으로 -

Functions and Cultural Heritage Value of Makgeolli Brewery - Focusing on the case of ‘Chilgok Brewery’ -

이 연구는 경북 칠곡에 있는 ‘칠곡양조장’을 사례로 하여 양조장의 사회문화적 기능을 살폈고, 이를 통해 양조장의 문화유산 가치를 논하였다. 그 결과, ‘칠곡양조장’의 사례로 볼 때 양조장의 사회문화적 기능은 다음 몇 가지이다. 첫째, 양조장은 술의 생산과 유통의 공간이었다. 둘째, 양조장은 지역민들에게 부수적 경제활동의 공간이었다. 셋째, 양조장은 성인 남성 주민들의 쉼터였다. 넷째, 양조장은 오늘날 ‘맛집’으로서 지역관광명소의 기능을 담당하고 있다. 지금까지 양조장의 문화유산 가치는 주로 건축적 측면에서만 논의되었는데, 사회문화적 기능도 함께 고려하여 그 가치가 논의되어야 한다. 양조장의 문화유산 가치는 다음 몇 가지이다. 첫째, 양조장의 세대 간 전승은 전통문화를 이어가고 사회적 역할을 지속한다는 점에서 전승문화적 가치가 있다. 둘째, 양조장은 술을 빚는 공간이라는 점에서 시설 자체뿐만 아니라 이를 활용한 지식이 존재했기에 건축적 가치가 있다. 셋째, 양조장은 지역사회와 상호작용을 기반으로 운영되었기에 생활사적으로 중요한 가치를 지닌다.

This study examined the sociocultural functions of brewery by examining ‘Chilgok Brewery’ located in Chilgok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do and discussed the cultural heritage value of brewery. As a result, a brewery has the following several sociocultural functions according to the case of Chilgok Brewery. First, brewery was a place of makgeolli production and distribution. Next, it was a place of additional economic activities for local people; and third, brewery was a resting area for adult males. Fourth, it is a regional tourist attraction site as a ‘Matjip (reputed restaurant)’ today. The cultural heritage values of brewery have been mainly discussed from architectural aspects thus far, but its value must consider. sociocultural functions as well. Brewery has several cultural heritage values. First, passing down of a brewery throughout generations gives it a value of handed down culture since it continues a traditional culture and social roles. Second, brewery has architectural values as its facility and knowledge existed as a place of brewing makgeolli. Third, brewery has important values as the history of everyday life as it was run through an interaction with a local community.
