Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effect of self-control and job stress on the degree of smartphone addiction of employees. Methods: The participants were 237 workers recruited through the Internet. Data were collected from February, 15 to 22, 2018 and analyzed with t-test, ANOVA, pearson’s correlation and multiple regression. Results:Sixty-five percent of the participants were under 30 years old and female employees constituted 63.7%. The mean scores of self-control, job stress, smartphone addiction were 36.45(SD=6.74), 47.87(SD=8.15) and 31.03(SD=8.02) respectively. Smartphone addiction was significantly correlated with gender, age, smartphone usage time, and types of smartphone use (p<.05). Self-control had significant negative correlations with job stress and smartphone addiction had significant negative correlations with self-control (p<.01). The explained variance for smart phone addiction was 45.6% (F=13.319, p=.000). Self-control, smartphone usage time, and types of smartphone use significantly predicted the degree on smart phone addiction. Conclusion: There is a need to develop an intervention program to prevent the addiction of smartphones among employees.
