안데르센 동화「미운오리새끼」를 통한 개성화 과정 탐색

Exploring the Individuation Process Through Andersen’s fairy tale “Ugly Duckling”

본 연구에서는 안데르센의 동화「미운오리새끼」에 나타난 주인공의 개성화 과정을 융의 분석심리학적 관점에서 해석해보고자 하였다. 동화는 주인공이 여러 가지 위기를 거쳐 회복하는 자아실현의 과정을 아름답게 묘사하고 있다. 유난히 크고 못생긴 모습으로 태어난 미운오리새끼는 가족과 어미로부터 소외받는다. 울타리를 뛰어넘어 어미로부터 분리된 주인공은 변화를 위해 페르소나, 모성원형, 아니마, 그림자를 대변하는 여러 등장인물들을 만나게 된다. 이들과의 접촉과 통합을 통해 변화된 주인공은 비로소 아름다운 백조로 재탄생하게 된다. 이는 대극의 조화를 통해 이룬 미운오리새끼의 개성화를 의미하는 것이다. 이처럼 이 작품은 탄생, 분리, 변화, 개성화로 이어지는 주인공의 개성화 과정을 잘 보여주고 있다.

In this study, I tried to analyze the individuation process of Andesen s “Ugly Duckling” in the aspect of Jung s analytical psychology. Fairy tale beautifully describe the process of self-realization that the protagonist recovers through various crises. The Ugly Duckling, borns with a particularly large and ugly appearance, is alienated from the family and mother. The protagonist, who is separated from his mother, meets various characters who represent Persona, Mother-archetype, Anima and Shadows in order to make changes. Ugly Duckling, who has been changed through contact and integration with them, is reborn as a beautiful swan. This means the individuation of the ugly duckling achieved through the coniunctio oppositorum. Thus, the fairy tale shows the individuation process of the protagonist that from the birth to the separation, the change, and the individuation.
