한 대안학교 교장의 정체성 및 역할 변화에 대한 생애사 연구: “하얀 사람

A Life History Research on the Transition of Identity and Role of an Alternative School Principal: “A White Man”

연구목적: 이 연구는 한 대안교육 특성화고등학교 교장의 생애 궤적을 추적함으로써 대안학교 학교장으로서의 정체성 및 역할 변화 과정을 해석적으로 조명하고자 하였다. 연구방법: 이 연구는 최종적인 이야기를 도출하기 위하여 Lieblich, Tuval-Mashiach, & Zilber(1998)의 총체적 형태에 기초하여 1차 코딩을 시도하였다. 그리고 1차 코딩 결과를 Saldana(2009)의 종단적인 질적 자료 요약 매트릭스에 치환함으로써 2차 코딩을 시도하였다. 연구결과: 질적 자료 분석을 통해 세 가지의 주제(① 일반학교 교사로서의 비판적 삶과 교육:“시인의 상심(傷心)으로 학교교육을 견뎌내기”, ② 대안학교 국어교사로서의 해방적 삶과 교육실천 : “군자 불기(君子不器)”, ③ ‘교사’의 마음으로 학교장 역할 수행하기: “돌담과도 같은 울타리가 되기”)와 여섯 개의 하위범주를 생성하였다. 논의 및 결론: 이 연구의 결과는 한 대안교육 특성화고등학교 학교장의 정체성과 역할 변화 과정을 해석적으로 이야기함으로써 대안교육의 본질을 이해하고, 대안학교를 개선하기 위한 교육적 통찰을 제공할 수 있을 것이다. 또한, 이 연구의 결과는 대안교육의 본질에 대한 이해와 대안학교의 개선을 넘어서, 일반학교의 개선과 학교장의 역할 재고 및 재정의를 위한 새로운 관점을 제공할 수 있을 것이다.

Purpose: The aim of this paper was to illuminate the transition of identity and role of an alternative high school principal through pursuing the life trajectory and story via life history research. Method: This paper conducted first coding by Lieblich, Tuval-Mashiach, & Zilber(1998)’s holistic form to draw a story line, applied secondary coding procedure by Saldana(2009)’s longitudinal qualitative data analysis matrix. Results: Specific results are three themes(① Critical life and education as a school teacher: “enduring schooling in terms of heartbreak of a poet, ② Emancipated life and educational praxis as a teacher of Korean in a specialized high school: “Gunjabulgi”, ③ Becoming an alternative school principal with ‘teacher’ mind: “becoming a stone wall for keeping a specialized high school members) and six sub-categories. Conclusion: The results of this paper will be an insight for understanding the essence of alternative education and improvement of alternative school. Also, this paper will suggest new perspectives on the redefinition and reconsideration of principal’s role, and improvement of secondary school.
