우리나라 학생들의 학습동기 유형 분석

An analysis on learner types of academic motivation

학생들의 학습동기를 향상함으로써 학교 교육의 경쟁력을 높일 수 있기 때문에 학습동기의 중요성이 강조되어 왔다. 학습이 실제적이고 의미있게 이루어지기 위해서는 학생들의 학습동기가 실제로 어떠한 모습으로 존재하는지를 확인할 필요가 있다. 이 연구는 학습자가 보여주는 다양한 동기적 특성을 토대로 서로 구분되는 학습자 유형이 존재하는지를 확인하고, 이들이 학업상황에서 어떠한 차이가 있는지 경험적으로 검증하는 것을 목적으로 삼았다. 이를 위해 서울과 경기도 중학교 학생 725명을 대상으로 자료를 수집하고 잠재프로파일분석(LPA)을 실시하였다. 연구결과, 질적으로 서로 구별되는 6개 유형의 학습자 프로파일이 추출되었는데, 이들은 내적목표에서 가장 두드러진 차이를 나타내었다. 6개 유형은 ‘동기우수형’, ‘내적목표형’, ‘외적목표형’, ‘평균형’, ‘동기저하형’, ‘동기침체형’으로 명명되었는데, 학업적 관여 및 정서, 그리고 학습전략에서 서로 구분되는 차이가 존재하였다. ‘내적목표형’, ‘외적목표형’은 학업적 관여, 정서, 학습전략 등에서 상반된 모습을 보여주었다. 가장 높은 동기수준을 보인 ‘동기우수형’은 정적정서를 많이 지각하지만 부적정서 역시 가장 많이 지각하는 것으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 개인차를 고려한 차별적 개입과 교육적 처치의 필요성을 논의하고 있다.

Academic motivation in education has been emphasized. It is believed that the competitiveness of public education would be improved by enhancing students’s motivation. Attention is needed on the qualitative form of academic motivation to figure out practical and meaningful learning. The aims of this study are to classify learners according to their academic motivation. This study also examined psychological characteristics of qualitatively different types of learners. For this study, data of 725 middle school students in Seoul and the capital area were collected. Latent Profile Analysis is used to investigate whether qualitatively different types of learners exist depending on academic motivation. The findings of this study is as follows. First, learners are divided into 6 profile types and they showed clear differences in various learner characteristics in academic contexts. Second, it was shown that they have remarkable differences on Academic Engagement, Emotion, Learning Strategy. This study is meaningful since it gives the useful explanations on learner pattern. These results imply the need for programs which can enhance academic achievements based on different academic motivation.
