• 98

Purpose : This research was done in attempt to affirm the degree of unease, the influence of information perception and social support in anxiety and their relationship that can further offer the basis for developing nursing intervention program reducing the anxiety of patients. Methods : Participants studied in this research were those 201 patients prescribed and about to undergo colonoscopy in university hospital, B city. Study tools used were: ‘Information Perception Scale’ developed by Son, ‘Social Support Scale developed by Park, and ’Anxiety - STAI(State-Trait Anxiety Inventory) Scale’ developed by Spielberger. Data were analyzed by using t-test, ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson s correlation coefficients and Stepwise multiple regression. Results : Participants with higher anxiety had lower scores for information perception(r= -.274, p<.001) and social support (r= -.279, p<.001). The Factors seen as cotributing to anxiety were information perception, social support, gender, marriage, job status, former experience undergone colonoscopy, and familiy history of colon-related disease in decreasing order. These variables explained 27.1% of the variance in anxiety. Information perception with 10.0 % was the most influential. Conclusion : Anxiety of the subjects of pre-colonoscopy can be reduced if information perception and social support can be improved. Therefore, we suggest a nursing intervention program, which leads to improve information perception and social support, be developed for reducing anxiety. prior to colonoscopy.
