Relationships between Spiritual Health, Family Support, and Depression in Women with Breast Calncer

Purpose: The study was to identify relationships between the spiritual health, family support and depression in women with breast cancer. Methods: Data were collected by questionnaires from 140 breast cancer patients in and out Breast cancer clinic at 2 Uinversity Hospital in B city, Korea. The instruments included Spritual Health Scale, Family Support Scale, and Depression Scale. The collected data were analyzed using frequency,percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe’s test, and Pearson’s correlation coefficients by SPSS WIN12.0program. Results: There were significant differences in spiritual health by education, monthly income, the frequency of attendance at service or meeting of church, the influence of religion on life, pain, perceived health state. There were significant differences in the family support by education level, monthly mean income, therapeutic expense charge person. There were significant differences in the depression by age, education level, monthly mean income, pain, fatigue, perceived health state, metastasis. Spiritual health was significantly correlated with family support and depression. Conclusion: These results suggested that promoting spiritual health and enhancing family support would decrease depression effectively among women with breast cancer.
