Risk Factors of Osteopenia and Osteoporosis by Sex in Examinees for Bone Density in Comprehensive Health Examination

Purpose: This study is a cross-sectional research in order to investigate risk factors of osteoporosis by health examination records of examinees. Methods: The subjects were 586 examinees who visited a hospital between Oct. 1, 2009 and Sep. 30, 2010. Results: 17.2% of the males had normal bone density and 32.0% of the males had osteoporosis and 55.8% of them had osteopenia and 48.4% of the females had osteoporosis and 41.9% of them had osteopenia. The group of males with normal bone density and risk factors of osteopenia. In the relation between the normal bone density group and risk factors of osteoporosis, the cases with age of more than 60 were significantly 2.5 times higher than the ones with age of less than 60 and the cases with BMI of less than 25kg/m2 were significantly 7.1times higher than the ones with body mass index of atleast BMI. Conclusion: Females had more distribution of osteoporosis than the males. Osteopenia of males was affected by HDL and osteoporosis of males was affected by BMI and age. Osteopenia of females was affected by age and Postmenopausal period and osteoporosis of females was affected by age and Postmenopausal period and BMI.
