학교의 교육적 기능의 수행 정도, 즉 학교효과에 대한 평가는 교육의 사회적 영향력을 고려할 때 중요하다고 볼 수 있다. 학교는 인적, 물적 자원을 포함한 다양한 요인들의 상호작용에 의해 그 목적을 달성한다. 그러나 학교의 목적에 영향을 미치는 이러한 다양한 요인들은 그 특성과 수준의 상이함으로 인하여 정확한 분석을 하는데 한계를 갖게 한다. 따라서 유사한 특성을 가진 요인들을 분석하여 통합하는 방식으로 학교효과를 연구해 나가는 것이 바람직하다고 여겨진다. 연구는 학교 내에서 나타나는 교사 특성을 분석 변인으로 하여 학교효과를 평가하였다. 연구대상은 도시지역, 평준화 제도를 시행하는 인문계 고등학교 교사이며, 학생들의 모의 수능 점수를 기준으로 학교 평균 점수가 높은 효과적인 학교와 평균점수가 낮은 비효과적인 학교로 구분하고, 두 학교군에서 나타나는 교사의 특성을 조사하였다. 다시 말하면 두 학교군의 차이가 교사의 어떤 특성에 기인하는지를 확인하고자 하는 것이다. 두 학교군에서 나타나는 교사특성 차이를 확인하기 위해 선정한 변인은 교장의 수업지도성, 학교풍토, 교사인성, 교사헌신, 교사의 기대, 교수활동이다. 수집된 자료는 t-test, 상관관계, 경로분석을 통해 검증하였다. 분석결과 교사관련 과정변인들은 두 학교군 간에 차이가 있으며, 이것은 학교 내에서 나타나는 교사의 특성에 따라 학교효과가 차이 나게 할 수 있음을 확인해 주고 있다.
This study researched what makes effective schools by studying their internal process variables, which includes the methods of using human and material resources. The subjects of the research were academic high schools in the academically equalized regions of metropolitan areas. 470 teachers of the area were sampled to classify the schools as to their effectiveness. To define the variables that affect the effectiveness of the school groups, I selected 6 process variables: principals' leadership abilities, schools' climates, teachers' personalities, teachers' devotion, teachers' expectations, and teaching activities. The degree of the effectiveness was evaluated by examining preliminary College Student Achievement Tests. This study followed a procedure of classifying effective and ineffective schools based upon students' achievements, comparing the process variables between the school groups variance, understanding their correlations, and ultimately analyzing the causal differences. I used the SPSS, LISREL programs to analyze t-tests, correlations, and paths. As a result, the effective schools had a higher variance and more significant paths of process variables. I ascertained which process variables are determinants of effective schools.
