본 연구는 한국노동패널조사 자료를 위계적 선형모형(Hierarchical Linear Model)을 이용하여 각 가구가 2000년부터 2002년까지 3년간 소비한 사교육비 지출 추세에 대해 가구변수들과 지역변수들 의 영향을 종단분석하였다. 최종 분석대상은 140개 구/군/소도지 지역에 위치한 전국의 1,767개 가 구이다. 주요 연구결과를 살펴보면 각 가구 및 지역마다 최초 대상연도인 2000년도의 사교육비 지 출과 매년 사교육비 지출 증가율 모두에서 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구에서는 각 가구의 소득수준, 총 자녀수, 사회적 지위와 가구가 위치한 지역에 따라서 사교육비 지출이 다르게 나타나 는 것으로 분석되었다. 끝으로 본 연구결과에 기초해서 사교육비에 대한 적절한 교육정책 수립과 후속연구를 위한 시사점을 제시하였다.
Using the Korean Labor and Income Panel Study(KLIPS) data of 1,767 households in 140 gu/gun/small cities in Korea, this study investigated how household and regional factors influence the trends of private tutoring expenditure. To accomodate the nested structure of the data and research questions, the study used the Hierarchical Linear Modeling(HLM) methods to estimate regional effects on private tutoring expenditure. We found that households and regions varied in terms of initial average expenditure in 2000 and annual expenditure rate of private tutoring. Regions and households both contributed significantly to the expenditure of private tutoring of students. At each of household and region levels, annual household income, total number of children, social status and the location of each household had the significant strong effects on the private tutoring expenditure. Suggestions and implications of conducting a future study on private tutoring expenditure of each household are also discussed.
