본 연구에서는 한국고용정보원의 청년패널 데이터를 사용하여 세대 간 지위이동 결정요인의 구 조적 관계를 살펴보았다. 특히 본 연구는 사교육과 어학연수 변인이 세대 간 지위이동에 미치는 효 과에 중점을 두고 수행되었다. 연구방법으로 구조방정식모형을 활용하였고, 주요 변인으로는 부모 의 사회경제적 지위, 중고등학생 시절 사교육, 청소년기 친구성향, 수능성적, 취업 사교육, 어학연 수, 자기개발, 본인의 사회경제적 지위가 설정되었다. 분석 결과, 부모의 사회경제적 지위는 그 자 체로도 본인의 지위획득에 강력한 영향을 미치지만 다른 매개변인들과도 밀접한 관계를 맺는 것으 로 나타났다. 이러한 매개변인들 가운데, 청소년기 친구성향, 교육성취, 어학연수는 실제 지위획득 에 유의미한 효과를 발휘하는 것으로 확인되었다. 특히 부모의 사회경제적 지위에 따라 어학연수 참여 양상이 다르고, 이러한 차이가 실제 지위획득에도 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 부모 의 사회경제적 지위가 다양한 매개경로를 통해 자녀에게 전달되며 동시에 어학연수가 세대 간 지 위이동의 새로운 결정요인으로 작용하고 있음을 시사한다. 한편 남녀를 구분하여 다집단 분석을 실 시한 결과, 여성은 남성에 비해 부모의 사회경제적 지위에 의해 본인의 사회경제적 지위가 결정되 는 경향이 더 강했다. 이러한 결과는 여성의 지위획득이 남성보다 제한된 구조 속에서 이루어지고 있음을 보여준다.
This study attempts to investigate structural relationships between determinants of intergenerational mobility using Youth Panel data from Korean Employment Information Service. Special attention is given to ascertaining the effects of shadow education and language training abroad on status attainment. The results show that parental socioeconomic status has a significant direct and indirect effect on children's socioeconomic status. Language training abroad is closely related to family background, and is proven to be conducive to attaining high status. The results imply that parental socioeconomic status could be inherited by children through various mediators and that language training abroad might play a key role in the process. In addition, it is found that female's status attainment is more strongly affected by family background than male's.
