대안교육을 받은 사람들은 과연 어떤 삶을 살아가고 있는가? 어떤 생각과 고민을 하며, 어떻게 자신의 삶을 이끌어가고 있는가? 청소년기에 받은 대안교육이 그들의 삶에 어떻게 영향을 미치고 있는가? 본 연구는 이러한 문제의식에서 출발하였다. 연구문제를 해결하기 위하여 대안학교 졸업생 29명이 대안학교에서 겪은 경험과 졸업 이후 자신들의 삶의 전개에 대해 집필하여 출간한 생애사 에세이를 분석하는 한편, 집필자 중 5명의 졸업생을 연구참여 자로 선정하여 심층면담을 실시하였다. 자료분석을 위해서는 범주적 내용분석접근을 사용하 였다. 대안학교 졸업생들은 졸업 후 대학진학 여부를 결정할 때부터 대학생활과 대학 이후 진로 선택 과정, 사회생활 속에서 끊임없이 고민과 성찰하는 삶을 살아가고 있었다. 대안학 교 졸업 후의 진로는 매우 다양하지만 많은 졸업생들이 고교시절부터 가지고 있는 문제의식 과 관심을 발전시켜 나가며, 현실의 벽에 부딪치면서도 적극적이고 주체적으로 자신의 삶을 개척해 나가고 있었다. 이들은 졸업 후 일정 기간이 지나면 대안학교 출신이라는 정체성을 의식하지 않게 되지만, 그럼에도 불구하고 대안학교의 경험이 자신의 삶에 반영되고 있음을 인식하고 있었다.
How have graduates from alternative schools led their life? What kind of thoughts and distress have they had while they have led their life? In what ways does alternative education they experienced in their teens influence their life thereafter? This study attempted to answer theses questions. I analyzed 29 life history essays that 29 graduates from alternative schools had written and had been published in two books. In addition, I performed in-depth interviews with 5 graduates chosen from these 29 graduates. The categorical content approach was employed for the data analysis. Graduates from alternative schools kept introspecting and reflecting on a variety of issues and problems they faced all through their college and work life. While they have gone through diverse paths in life, many of them share common features in that they have continuously pursued questions and concerns they had in their high school years and led their life actively and independently. They became not to be conscious of their identity as graduates from alternative schools after a period of time, but nevertheless they perceived that the experience of alternative schools had been reflected in their life.
