이 연구는 한국사회 국제결혼가정이 처한 현실에 바탕을 두고 그 자녀들의 삶의 경험과 인식을 탐색하여 이들의 정체성 재구성을 중심으로 분석한 것이다. 이를 위해 국제결혼가정 자녀와 그 부모들을 심층 인터뷰하여 국제결혼가정 자녀들의 성장과정을 입체적이고 맥락적 으로 보여줄 수 있는 질적 연구방법을 수행하였다. 즉, 국제결혼가정 자녀들은 한국사회에서 어떻게 자신들을 위치시키면서 적응과 성장의 과정을 거쳐 왔는지, 그리고 그 과정에서 자 신들을 어떻게 정의하고 자신들의 삶을 기획하는지를 행위자의 측면에서 탐구하였다. 연구 결과, 국제결혼가정 자녀들은 자신들을 둘러싼 한국사회의 지배적인 다문화담론과 일정한 거리를 두면서 자신들을 정의하거나 삶을 기획하고 있었다. 또한 국제결혼가정 자녀들이 한 국인으로서 정체성을 가질 것이라는 일반적인 기대 혹은 예측과는 달리 성장의 과정에서 끊 임없이 주어진 상황 혹은 환경과의 협상과정에서 자신들의 정체성을 재구성해나가고 있음을 보여주고 있다. 이처럼 국제결혼가정 자녀들은 한국사회의 지배적인 담론을 가로지르면서 성장 배경, 가족적ㆍ사회적 자원의 차이에 따라 자아인식과 삶의 이해, 생애 기획에 대한 다 양한 스펙트럼을 보여줌으로써 이들을 ‘다문화가정 자녀’라는 단일한 정체성이나 범주로 묶 어서 이해하는 것은 어렵다는 것을 보여주었다. 이러한 연구결과를 염두에 두고 한국사회 국제결혼가정 자녀들에 대한 기존의 주류담론을 비판적으로 고찰하고 관련 정책에 대한 시 사점을 기술하였다.
This case study investigates the identity reconstitution of children from international marriage family based on the circumstance of Korean society. For this aims, I conducted in-depth interview with children-parents of international marriage by qualitative methods. In other words, children from international marriage how they define themselves and how they grew up employing various strategy to establish their own place for their life under a given unfavorable condition in Korean society. Research result can be categorized as follows: First of all, they keep distance from the dominant discourse of ‘Damunwha’ in Korean society. And, they negotiate and reconstitute their identity in relation with their environment showing transitional life plan and flexible identity according their expectations. These findings implicates divers spectrum for their recognition about themselves and life career in which diverse elements such as family resource, social and cultural context involved. Therefore, it is very difficult to define them with their collective identity. Regarding these results, I discussed the implication to Korean multicultural policy.
