이 연구의 목적은 실시간 온라인 토론에서 학습자의 참여도와 만족도 수준을 판별하는데 있어서 학습자 관련 변인과 설계 관련 변인이 어떤 영향을 주는지를 확인하는 것이다. 이를 위해서 선행연구 검토를 통해 확인된 관련 변인들을 사용하여 온라인 동시적 토론을 통해 얻어진 135명의 참여도와 만족도에 대한 판별분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 결과 분석을 통해 도출된 결론은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 참여도 수준 판별에 쓰기에 대한 태도 요인이 가장 많은 기여를 하고 있고, 컴퓨터 매개 통신에 대한 태도, 내향성/외향성 요인의 순으로 영향을 미치고 있었다. 둘째, 만족도 수준 판별에는 토론주제의 관련성 요인이 가장 많은 기여를 하고 있고, 그 다음으로 컴퓨터 매개 통신에 대한 태도 요인이 영향을 미치고 있었다. 이상의 결론에 근거하여 온라인 토론이 효과적으로 이루어지기 위해서는 학습자의 쓰기 수준과 관련성이 높은 토론 주제의 선정이 중요하고 학습자가 컴퓨터 매개 통신에 대한 긍정적 태도를 형성하도록 돕는 다각적인 교수전략이 필요하다는 시사점을 도출하였다.
This study investigated how learner variables and design variables operate when discriminating the learner participation level and satisfaction level in the Web Based Online Discussion. Discriminant analysis was applied to clarify the level of participation and satisfaction of 135 students by utilizing variables extracted from the preceding studies. The study analysis supported the following conclusions. Regarding the participation level, the attitude for writing, the attitude toward CMC, and personality traits(Extroversion/ Introversion) were examined as significant variables. In case of satisfaction level, the relevance of the discussion topic was made a high contribution to the level followed by the attitude toward CMC. Taking all results into consideration, the attitude for writing and submitting relevant discussion subjects as well as supporting learners to formulate positive attitude toward CMC with diverse instructional strategy is to be considered to stimulate effective Web Based Online Discussion.
